KARATE BREMEN 2014. FINAL RESULTS

22nd World Championships has taken to an end at the ÖVB arena in Bremen on this Sunday evening after 5 days of intense competition. As expected, competition provided incredible excitement in all weight categories.

22nd World Championships has taken to an end at the ÖVB arena in Bremen on this Sunday evening after 5 days of intense competition. As expected, competition provided incredible excitement in all weight categories.

A total of 996 athletes from 116 nations gathered in Germany from Wednesday 5th to Sunday 9th of November 2014 to participate and compete for the World title. They all were widely acclaimed by the numerous spectators, especially during the weekend when tickets were sold out in this arena of a capacity of 17000 places.

At the end of the competition, Japan took the lead at the medal table with 3 gold, 2 silver and 5 bronze. Egypt confirmed on Sunday its status as one of the leading ries of this championship by ranking second with 3 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze. France, who lost its first place of last edition, finished third, with 2 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze.

The next edition will be staged in Austria (Linz) in 2016. Next year, the World Championships for Cadet, Junior and Under 21 will take place in Jakarta, Indonesia (12-15th November 2015).

Female Kata: Kiyou SHIMIZU (Japan)
The U21 World Champion 2013, Kiyou SHIMIZU, became Senior World Champion 2014 by defeating (5/0) Sandy SCORDO (France), already vice-champion in Paris 2 years ago. She succeeds her compatriot USAMI, who retired after the last edition in 2012.
Bronze medals were won by Yaiza MARTIN ABELLO (Spain) and the competitor of the host ry, Jasmin BLEUL (Germany)

Female Team Kumite : EGYPT
The Final was won the team of Egypt who defeated France 2/0, Double reigning champion (2010,2012).Turkey and Japan took the bronze.

Male Team Kata : SPAIN
The Spanish team won its first and only Gold medal of the championship by defeating the bronze medalist of last edition, Egypt (4/1) in the final.
France and Malaysia won the bronze.

Female Team Kata : GERMANY
Japan’s reign in the Kata team Female category (3 consecutive titles since 2008) ended after the short victory of the German team 3/2. Bronze medals were won by Italy and Iran.

Male Kata: Ryo KIYUNA (Japan)
Ryo KIYUNA, Bronze medalist in Paris two years ago, confirmed his good results of 2014 (victory in Okinawa and Hanau) by defeating 5/0 the local competitor Ilja SMORGUNER (Germany)
The two finalists of last edition in Paris, Antonio DIAZ (Venezuela) and Minh DACK (France) won both the Bronze medal.

Male Team Kumite: IRAN
Iranian team defeated the German team 3/2 in a tense final that went to the 5th decisive fight. Turkey and Japan won the bronze.
