WKF President Antonio Espinós participated in the ASOIF meeting being held this Friday in Lausanne (Switzerland). Mr. Espinós’ participation in the meeting represents a historic milestone for Karate, as it marks the first time that the sport is present in an event of the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations.

Mr. Espinós’ participation in the meeting represents a historic milestone for Karate, as it marks the first time that the sport is present in an event of the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations.

Karate was included in the programme of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in a momentous resolution taken by the IOC Session in Rio de Janeiro. Following this decision, the WKF becomes associate member of ASOIF, the institution set to unite, promote and support the International Summer Olympic Federations.

The meeting held in the Olympic Museum in Lausanne consisted of a Post Games debrief after the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, in which the outcome of the event was analysed.

Since we are convinced that we will give added value to the Olympic movement, we are thrilled to participate in events such as this ASOIF meeting. We expect to have an active and rewarding membership in this highly important association for us,” declared WKF President Antonio Espinós.
