WKF President in the inauguration of the monument in honour of Matteo Pellicone

On Tuesday the 16th of February the inauguration of  the monument in honour of  Matteo Pellicone at the Olympic Center FIJLKAM of Ostia took place, with the presence with, the FILJKAN President Domenico Falcone the President of CONI Giovanni Malago, the President of the WKF Antonio Espinós and many other high sports, civil and military authorities.

On Tuesday the 16th of February the inauguration of the monument in honour of Matteo Pellicone at the Olympic Center FIJLKAM of Ostia took place, with the presence of FILJKAN President Domenico Falcone, CONI President Giovanni Malago, WKF President Antonio Espinós and many other high sports, civil and military authorities.

Matteo Pellicone has been for more than 30 years the guide of Judo, Wrestling and Karate and also creator of the Olympic training center building that bears his name. Under his presidency unforgettable champions have flourished in the most important international competitions, with a total of 730 individual and 80 team medals obtained in senior categories.

Among the personalities present in the event were the President of the Court of Auditors Raffaele Squitieri, the Secretary General of the United World Wrestling Michel Dusson, the Secretary general of Judo European Union Envic Galea, the Secretary general of CONI Roberto Fabbricini, many federal presidents and the military high command representing the military Sports Groups and the honorary President of Fijlkam and of the European Karate Federation Giuseppe Pellicone, brother of Matteo Pellicone.

Very emotional was the moment when Olympic Champions Giulia Quintavalle and Andrea Minguzzi (both gold in Beijing 2008 in judo and wrestling) and the Karate World Champion Luigi Busà accompanied Marina Pellicone, widow of Matteo, to unveil the monument in the memory of Matteo Pellicone. The bronze sculpture was created by artist Italo Celli.

During the ceremony it was also presented the biographical book “Matteo Pellicone: President" written by journalist Vanni Loriga along the historic Livio Toschi and published by FIJLKAM.
