WKF President Antonio Espinós visited on Saturday the headquarters of the San Marino National Olympic Committee and met with the President the sport institution of the European country, Gian Primo Giardi.

WKF President Antonio Espinós visited on Saturday the headquarters of the San Marino National Olympic Committee and met with the President of the sport institution of the European country, Gian Primo Giardi. The meeting was regarded as an opportunity to discuss the situation of Karate in the region, as well as the possible inclusion of the sport in the Games of the Small States of Europe.

The high-profile gathering was attended by WKF and EKF President Antonio Espinós, San Marino National Olympic Committee President Gian Primo Giardi, San Marino National Olympic Committee Secretary General Eros Bologna, San Marino Martial Arts Federation President Maurizio Mazza, San Marino Martial Arts Federation Vice-President Claudio Giuliani and Small States of Europe Karate Federation President Andreas Vasileiou.

The main point of the agenda was the procedures ahead of the inclusion of Karate in the programme of the 2021 Games of the Small States of Europe. A biennial multi-sport event, the Games of the Small States of Europe feature the nine Small States of Europe (Andorra, Cyprus, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro and San Marino). The 2017 edition of the event will be held in the City of San Marino from May 29th to April 3rd 2017.

The Small States of Europe Karate Federation (SSEKF) is a newly formed federation set under the WKF and it has already organised international championship for the small states of Europe (those that have a population of less than one million inhabitants) for the past three years.
