The World Karate Federation and the Olympic Channel today announced that they have reached a cooperation agreement to collaborate on content for the Olympic Channel.

The World Karate Federation and the Olympic Channel signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to work together to promote sport through the creation and distribution of audio-visual content. The agreement was signed by WKF President Antonio Espinós and General Manager of the Olympic Channel Mark Parkman at Olympic Channel headquarters in Madrid.

The WKF and the Olympic Channel will work together to create innovative partnerships encompassing event coverage, highlights, magazine shows, news coverage and original programming as well as technical business solutions. Collaborations to broadcast live events on the Olympic Channel aim to complement the WKF’s current broadcast and distribution arrangements.

“We look forward to working with our IF partners to extend the reach of Olympic sports and athletes outside of the Games themselves,” said Mark Parkman, General Manager of the Olympic Channel. “Since we launched the Olympic Channel just two months ago, our IF partnerships have already contributed greatly to our programming line-up through live events, social media content, promotion and more ensuring that fans will be able to continue their excitement of Rio and the Olympic Games all year long.”

“We are thrilled to be forging such a wonderful partnership with the Olympic Channel. This MOU states our intention of building an enduring association with the channel and we look forward to taking a leading role in the success of the platform,” said WKF President Antonio Espinós. “With this landmark agreement we continue lifting the profile of Karate, as it gives sport fans around the world the opportunity to get in touch with the values of Karate through the stories of our sport and our athletes being broadcast on the Olympic Channel,” declared WKF President.

The Olympic Channel has been airing live events in collaboration with IF partners since its launch including robust event coverage surrounding the IIHF Ice Hockey Olympic Qualifiers, WA Archery World Cup Final, ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup Final, Fusiyama FEI Nations Cup Jumping Final, ITU World Triathlon Grand Final Cozumel, ISSF World Cup Final Rifle Pistol, ISSF World Cup Final Shotgun and FIBA 3v3 World Championships.

In addition to the World Karate Federation, IFs with whom the Olympic Channel has recently concluded agreements include International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC), International Luge Federation (FIL), International Skating Union (ISU), Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) and World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC).

The agreement with the Olympic Channel represents a milestone in the WKF’s media strategy and contributes to strengthen the innovating actions taken by Karate’s global governing body to further develop the media presence of the sport.

The Olympic Channel is a new, ground-breaking digital platform where fans can experience the power of sport and the excitement of the Olympic Games all year round, and is available worldwide via mobile apps for Android and iOS devices and at olympicchannel.com.
