Shanghai hosts the anticipated last Karate 1-Series A event of the season. The top series of international Karate competitions concludes in Shanghai as the sport continues its progress in China and all over the world.

Over 1100 karatekas from 80 countries are travelling to Shanghai this weekend for a memorable event. This tally of participants extends the record-breaking attendance of competitors in this year’s edition of the Karate 1-Series A, since 1300 athletes from 82 countries competed in the inaugural event in Guadalajara (Spain), 1400 karatekas from 85 participated in Salzburg (Austria), and nearly 1000 athletes from 65 countries took part in the tournament in Santiago (Chile).

The 2018 Karate 1-Series A in Shanghai is the last opportunity of the season for many athletes to take a step forward in WKF World Ranking. The intention of the host of Karate stars competing for gold in China will be to acquire the points to end the year on top of the standings of the World Karate Federation. It will also be one of the last chances for Karate heroes to shine after the historic demonstration of the magnitude of the sport at the 2018 Karate World Championships in Madrid.

The competition will be held at Gymnasium of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, and it is scheduled to start on Friday at 09.00 (local time). The finals will take place on Sunday from 15.00 to 18.00 (local time).

The tournament in Shanghai will showcase the growing influence of Karate in China, and it will put the spotlight in the local competitors hoping to use the home ground factor in their favour. The list of top Chinese competitors aiming for gold at home is headed by current Grand Winner Xiaoyan Yin. The Chinese ace claimed the silver medal at the World Championships in Madrid barely a month ago.
