2nd African Youth Games

The 2nd edition of the African Youth Games has been held from 22nd to 31st May in Gaborone, Botswana.

The 2nd edition of the African Youth Games has been held from 22nd to 31st May in Gaborone, Botswana. The UFAK attended with the representatives of the UFAK Executive Board Mr Dieudonné Okombi, UFAK General Treasurer, Mr Emmanuel Bilal Wakam, UFAK General Secretary, Mr Million Matsumbicka, President of UFAK Zone 6 and 3rd UFAK Vice-president, Mr Arab Yacine, President of UFAK Zone 1 and Mr Mesbahi Mohamed Tahar, UFAK President. 

A total of 54 African countries participated at this major event, including South Sudan, who recently joined. The sport of Karate counted on a representation of 18 countries, 17 of them participating with teams. 

On the second day of competition, 29th May, important authorities were present. First General Lassana Palenfo, President of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA), honoured the Karate competitions with his presence and he awarded the podium winners with their corresponding medal. After competitions, the Algerian delegation under the leadership of Mr Mustapha Berraf, President of the Algerian NOC and ANOCA  1st Vice-president, hosted a dinner gala at Gaborone Sun Hotel, with the presence of  General Lassana Palenfo, ANOCA officials and many other personalities of the sports movement at world level.

At this occasion, a memorandum of understanding was signed between ANOCA and the Algerian Olympic Committee, who will be the next host of the 3rd African Youth Games in Algeria in 2018. Mr Okombi, Mr Wakam, Mr Million, Mr Yacine and Mr Mesbahi were also present at the signature of the said MOU.

On 30th May Mr Million, Mr Million and Mr Mesbahi were invited by Mr Berraf to attend the final of the Fencing competition, together with Mr Thomas Bach, IOC President. Other IOC members, such as Sam Ramsamy, were also present. That same day ANOCA also hosted a dinner to honour the IOC President as a closing event.
