Countdown to record breaking Karate 1-Premier League in Paris

The first major international Karate tournament of 2017 is poised to become one of the largest and most celebrated Karate 1-Premier League event to this date. The Paris Open scheduled for January 27-29 is breaking all participation records thus showcasing the magnitude and impact of high-level Karate.

As the countdown for the celebration of one of the flagship events of international Karate enters its final stretch, excitement is growing among Karate fans to witness thousands of top Karatekas from all over the world in action. While the 2016 edition of the Karate 1-Premier League in Paris was memorable, with the attendance of 911 athletes from 72 countries and the crowning of stars such as Alexandra Recchia or Giana Lotfy, among others, this year’s tournament is expected to be a game-changer in international Karate. 

With less than nine days to the closing of the inscription process, over 1200 competitors from 80 countries have confirmed their participation in the Paris Open. This tally already represents a 35% increase over previous year ‘s edition and exceeds the event with the highest participation in 2016, the Karate 1-Premier League in Hamburg, with 1050 athletes from 69 countries. The 2016 Karate World Championships held in Linz last October was attended by 1049 athletes from 110 countries. 

The first of the five 2017 Karate 1-Premier League to be hosted in Paris will start on Friday morning, and the elimination rounds will be held in five tatamis. The finals will be celebrated on Sunday and they will be produced to be broadcast by a number of TV networks worldwide.
