Karate Star Douglas Brose claimed his first gold medal in Karate 1-Premier League competitions this season after winning in the event being held this weekend in Fortaleza. The Brazilian hero prevailed in the Male Kumite -60kg category and demonstrated his top form ahead of the forthcoming World Championships in Linz late in October.

The defending World champion beat Miguel Soffia of Chile in the final in Fortaleza thus paving the way for a golden first day for Brazilian delegation.

The representatives of the host country confirmed the predictions and monopolized the distribution of gold medals in the first day of competition. Brazilian ace Valeria Kumizaki became one of the local idols in the tournament after winning the Female Kumite -55kg category. The 31 year-old Karateka beat Slovakia's Viktoria Semanikova in the final and earned her second gold medal in Karate 1-Premier League tournaments this season following her victory in Salzburg.

Brazil's Hernani Verissimo also confirmed his successful course this season and his status as Brazilian rising figure after extending his gold medal in 2016 Pan American championships with a triumph at home ground in the Male Kumite -75 Kg category.

Victor Silva in Male Kumite +84kg, Julio Cezar Da Silva in Male Kumite -84kg, Breno Texeira in Male Kumite -67kg, Lucas Santos in Male Kata and Giovanna Feroldi in Female Kumite -50kg completed the list of gold medal winners for the host country in the first day of the event.



Amid Brazilian celebration in Fortaleza, Ingrida Suchankova of Slovakia claimed her star status with an impressive performance in the Female Kumite -61 kg competition. The Slovak fan favourite beat Javiera Gonzalez of Chile in the final and earned her third medal in Karate 1-Premier League events this season following her silver medal in Dubai and her triumph in Rabat.

Suchankova's victory put Slovakia's delegation in a successful path in Fortaleza, as the European country finished the first day in second position of the medal table with Suchankova and Dorota Balciarova in Female Kata as gold medal winners.
