French Federation President visits WKF


The French Karate Federation president and WKF Vice-President Francis Didier met WKF President Antonio Espinós in Madrid on Tuesday in an institutional visit to the WKF headquarters to discuss the current situation of the ancient discipline as well as the progress ahead of the first big international event of 2017, the Karate 1 – Premier League in Paris. 

President Espinós welcomed Mr. Didier in the new WKF offices in Madrid where the two Karate leaders underlined plans to further raise the profile of the sport, especially in the highly improved 2017 edition of the Karate 1-Premier League.  The WKF President also congratulated Mr. Didier for his recent re-election as head of the French Karate Federation for a new four-year term, a designation which was confirmed last Saturday.  

The Pierre de Coubertin Stadium sports hall in Paris will host the first event of the 2017 Karate 1-Premier League from January 27-29. The Paris tournament is one of the flagships events of international Karate and one of the most anticipated moments for Karatekas around the world. As the thrilling event is one month away, Mr. Didier and Mr. Espinós discussed ways to further expand the tournament which is expected to set new records in terms of attendance and magnificence. 

Nearly 1,000 competitors from 72 countries participated in the 2016 edition of the Karate 1-Premier League in Paris with French karatekas topping the final standings of the spectacular event with a tally of 16 medals. 

“The doors of the WKF are always open for Karate leaders from all over the world, but it is always a momentous occasion when such a hard-working and fervent advocates of our ancient discipline as Francis Didier come to visit. Francis and the French Federation he leads are not only one of the biggest forces of our sport but true friends, and I am sure that with their support, we will achieve our goal of continuing taking Karate to new levels,” said WKF President Antonio Espinós.
