Karate 1-Premier League in Rabat set to crown new Karate’s heroes

The fourth stop of 2017 Karate 1-Premier League takes place this weekend in Rabat (Morocco) in an anticipated tournament aiming at extending the successful season of Karate’s first-class international events. Top favourites and local heroes are expected to shine at the competition scheduled to start on Friday morning.

Top favourites and local heroes are expected to shine at the competition scheduled to start on Friday morning. 

Representatives of the host nation caused a sensation last year, as Morocco took home no less than six gold medals at the event. The intention of karatekas from the organising country will be to continue the domination at home while putting Moroccan rising stars in the spotlight. 

World championships silver medallist Achraf Ouchen will lead the way for the large local delegation. The winner of the 2016 Karate 1-Premier League in Rabat will try to repeat victory so to show his predominance in Male Kumite +84kg. Promising karateka Tareg Hamedi of Saudi Arabia and 2016 Grand Winner Morgan Moss of South Africa are among the main contenders in the category. 

Local heroine Aya Nassiri was other of the big winners of the event last year, and the 2016 Karate 1-Premier League Rabat gold medallist will also be one of the big hopes of Moroccan karate in the tournament. Together with the young local karateka, Grand Winner Terryana D’Onofrio appear as the top front-runners in the Female Kata category. 


Fatima Zahrae Aghardis in Female Kumite +68kg, Omaima El Absi in Female Kumite -55kg and the Male Kata team are the rest of representatives of the host nation who claimed gold last year and who will try to reach the top of the podium again. Over a hundred local karatekas are registered to participate in the Karate 1-Premier League in Rabat this weekend thus forming the largest delegation at the event. Turkey and Algeria, with nearly 40 competitors respectively also concur with numerous representation. 

The event at the impressive Multi-purpose stadiums Prince Moulay Abdellah will not have a shortage of first-class karatekas, as Grand Winners and World Championships medallists aim at claiming their share of prominence this weekend. Current World Championships runners-up Valeria Kumizaki of Brazil and Egypt’s Omar Abdel Rahman, and Bronze medallists at the last World Championships Radwa Sayed of Egypt, Andres Madera of Venezuela, France’s Kenji Grillon, Azerbaijan’s Firdovsi Farzaliyev and Aykhan Mamayev  and Slovakia’s Grand Winner Ingrida Suchankova and Dominika Tatarova are among the karatekas named to succeed in Rabat this weekend.
