The Karate family joined the celebrations of the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace and participated in many initiatives organised by the World Karate Federation to promote the power of the sport as a catalyst for social change worldwide.

Celebrated each year on April 6, the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP) is an annual celebration that highlights Peace through Sports and the Olympic values. This international initiative promoted by the organisation Peace and Sport invites the entire world to show support for the peace-through-sport movement using the 'white card ' symbol.

The outreach initiative launched by the WKF took place in Rabat (Morocco) during the Karate 1-Premier League event. Athletes, officials, and coaches raised their white cards as a symbolic demonstration of peace through sports. Many heroes of the sport took part in the initiative and first-class karatekas such as Grand Winner Sandra Sanchez of Spain, rising star Gwendoline Phillipe of France and the Japanese team, among many others, sent messages to promote the power of sport.

The referees also joined the movement, and ahead of the referee briefing previous to the start of the competition in Rabat, the over 250 referees officiating at the event took a moment to share their support to the #WhiteCard campaign.

The outreach actions concluded on the final day of competition in Rabat. Before the start of the title-deciding bouts, the over thousand spectators filling up the Multi-purpose stadium Prince Moulay Abdellah sports hall in Rabat raised their white cards while messages of the importance of peace and sports were being announced.

Also, the athletes taking the medals of the event posed with their white cards at the final podium of the competition.

The #WhiteCard campaign is anchored around the United Nation’s International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP) celebrated on 6 April. The IDSDP commemorates the contribution of sport and physical activity to education, human development, healthy lifestyles and a peaceful world.
