The sport of Karate was prominently featured in the event “Tokyo Days in Paris - See You in Tokyo in 2020” which was held in the capital of France this week. Among the activities showcased to promote the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, Karate played a leading role thus demonstrating the close connexion of the sport and the Japanese culture and tradition.

Among the showcased activities to promote the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, Karate played a leading role thus demonstrating the close connexion of the sport with the Japanese culture and tradition. 

Legend of the sport Rika Usami was the big star of the Karate demonstration at “Tokyo Days in Paris - See You in Tokyo in 2020”.  Held at the Forum des Halles in Paris, the event was organised by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) in partnership with the Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020. 

Aiming to promote the Tokyo 2020 Games, the event put the focus on the most relevant aspects of the Japanese culture and tradition. Karate headlined the different activities which were displayed at the event. 

The 2012 World Champion Rika Usami performed different katas in front of the numerous audience and authorities, as the legendary Kata Queen interacted with local young karatekas who participated in the demonstrations. 

Rika Usami is a five-time national champion, gold medallist in the 2012 World Championships, and one of the most beloved Kata karatekas of all times.
