Kiyou Shimizu is The World Games Athlete of the Day

Two-time World champions and new title-holder of The World Games Kiyou Shimizu has been named The World Games ?Athlete of the Day?.  The Japanese Kata ace was elected as one of the top competitors of the multi-sport event due to her outstanding performance in Wroclaw. 

Two-time World champions and new title-holder of The World Games Kiyou Shimizu has been named The World Games ?Athlete of the Day?.  The Japanese Kata ace was elected as one of the top competitors of the multi-sport event due to her outstanding performance in Wroclaw. 

Kiyou Shimizu won gold in Female Kata competition at The World Games after producing a sensational participation at the tournament. The 23 year-old karateka defeated Sarah Sayed of Egypt (5-0), Sandra Sanchez of Spain (3-2) and Manel Kamilia Hadj Said of Algeria (5-0) in the pool round, and then Sakura Kokumai of the USA (5-0) in semifinals and Spain?s Sandra Sanchez (4-1) in the final to claim gold of the competition. 

With The World Games title under her belt, Kiyou Shimizu increases her impressive tally of awards. The two-time world champion has never lost a single bout in nearly six years of international career and has always claimed gold in all eleven international appearances. 

?I am so honoured to receive this award. It is great for me to have this recognition as a representative of Karate. I hope this distinction will help to continue introducing Karate to the world?, said the two-time world champion.

?At the ning of the tournament I felt like I was not reaching my top level,? said the Japanese ace analysing her performance. ?Hopefully I managed to be on top and I learned a lot from this event,? the 23-year-old added.
