Luxembourg top medal table of Small States of Europe Karate Championships

The 6th edition of the Small States of Europe Karate Championships was held in Iceland from September 13 to 19. Luxembourg finished on top of the medal table of the event with no less than 50 medals, followed by Cyprus and hosts of Iceland. 

The 6th edition of the Small States of Europe Karate Championships was held in Iceland from September 13 to 19. Luxembourg finished on top of the medal table of the event with no less than 50 medals, followed by Cyprus and hosts of Iceland. 

Nearly 400 competitors from seven nations travelled to Iceland to participate in the tournament that gathers representatives from the small countries of Europe. The event was hailed a success with first-class bouts and a thrilling quest to the medals.

“This event would not have been a success without the tremendous support of the Iceland Karate Federation and its president Reinhard Reinhardsson. The great outcome of this event and the leadership of EKF and WKF President Antonio Espinós will help us in our goal of achieving in the inclusion of Karate as a full member of Games of the Small States of Europe in 2021,” said President of Small States of Europe Karate Federation Andreas Vasileiou. 

“Events like this edition of the Small States of Europe Karate Championships are the perfect example of the global reach of our sport. Karate is popular all over the world, and the small states of Europe are not an exception. The tournament in Iceland also showed us the great level of our sport in these countries,” said WKF and EKF President Antonio Espinós.   

The next edition of the Small States of Europe Karate Championships will take place in Liechtenstein from 12-13 September 2020.
