Promising karatekas leave their mark on day 2 of #KarateAalborg2019

The most promising stars of European Karate took the spotlight in the second day of competition of the 2019 European Cadet, Junior & U21 Championships. With the junior categories taking the stage in Aalborg today, the event crowned the karatekas who are set to dominate the sport in years to come.

The second day of action in Aalborg had Anna Chernysheva of Russia and Christopher McCarthy Crean of Ireland among the biggest stars. After claiming silver at the Youth Olympic Games, Russia’s Anna Chernysheva confirmed her status as one of the most talented competitors in the continent with the gold medal in the Junior Female Kumite -59kg category.

The other big name of the day was Christopher McCarthy Crean of Ireland who took gold in Junior Male Kumite +76kg. Christopher McCarthy Crean continued a successful family saga today here in Aalborg since his identical twin brother Sean already made history for the sport when he qualified for the Youth Olympic Games. Sean went to win bronze in Buenos Aires 2018, and now his brother Christopher became European champion.

The rest of the categories at stake today crowned young karatekas who are on their way to make a name for themselves in the sport.  After his bronze medal in the last underage World Championships, Luciano Carmine increased the medal count for Italy as the promising athlete took gold in Junior Male Kumite -55kg. Carmine’s success was not the only gold for Italian karatekas today. Asia Agus improved the bronze medal she won last year in Sochi and took the third top award in the event for the Italian delegation. 

Extending the successful performance of representatives of powerhouse nation of Russia, Vladislav Taldykin earned the second gold for his country after defeating Hoang An Nguyen of Hungary in the final of Junior Kumite Male -68kg. The Russian delegation had even more opportunities to celebrate as Valeria Golubeva added the gold medal in Junior Female Kumite +59kg to the bronze she won in the last underage continental championships. 

Azerbaijan’s Aminagha Guliyev claimed gold in Junior Kumite Male -61kg while Raybak Abdesselem took the second gold for France in the tournament with his victory in Junior Male Kumite -76kg. Aleksandra Ilankovic Hungary in Junior Female Kumite -53kg and Spain with a double gold in Male and Female Cadet & Junior Team Kata completed the medal table of the day. 

The action will continue in Aalborg on Sunday with the final day of the tournament.  The event is available to a worldwide audience as the tournament is being streamed LIVE and FREE on karateworld.tv
