Rafael Aghayev leads winners at Islamic Solidarity Games

Top karatekas from Turkey, Azerbaijan and Iran were among the big winners of the Karate competition at the Islamic Solidarity Games being held in Baku (Azerbaijan).  Rafael Aghayev took the opportunity to shine at home and won gold in the event, much to the delight of Karate fans in the host country.

Top karatekas from Turkey, Azerbaijan and Iran were among the big winners of the Karate competition at the Islamic Solidarity Games being held in Baku (Azerbaijan).  Rafael Aghayev took the opportunity to shine at home and won gold in the event, much to the delight of Karate fans in the host country of the event.

Karate superstar and Azerbaijan hero Rafael Aghayev confirmed his status as dominating force of international Karate and prevailed in the Male Kumite -75kg category. The defending World champion turned the sports hall in Baku into an Azeri celebration when he defeated Saadi Ghulam Abbas of Pakistan in the final.

The list of Azerbaijan's gold medallist at the event is completed by Farida Abiyeva in Female Kumite -61kg, Irina Zaretska in Female Kumite -68kg, Roman Heydarov in Male Kata and Aykhan Mamayev in Male Kumite -84kg, so to help the organising country to top the medal table in the Karate competition.


Top Karatekas shining in Baku

Other top karatekas took the spotlight in Baku by reaching the top of the podium in their categories. Fresh of their medals in the European Championships last week,  Dilara Bozan and Meltem Hocaoglu of Turkey dominated the Female Kata and Female Kumite +68kg competitions respectively.

Meanwhile, Iran's Nasrin Dousti shocked Karate Star Serap Ozcelik of Turkey and won gold in Female Kumite -50kg. Yassmin Attia of Egypt confirmed the predictions and prevailed in Female Kumite -55kg.

In addition to Rafael Aghayev's demonstration, the male categories were also determined by the outstanding performances of rising heroes Sadriddin Saymatov of Uzbekistan and Sajad Ganjzadeh of Iran. The young karateka from Uzbekistan extended his impressive tally of medals this season and added gold in Baku to the three gold medals in Karate 1-Premier League. World champion Sajad Ganjzadeh who had reached the top of the podium in two Karate 1-Premier League events this season continued in remarkable form and dominated in Male Kumite +84kg.
