Rotterdam gets ready for record breaking Karate 1-Premier League

Karate fans are counting the days to witness another record breaking event of the sport. The impressive popularity and influence of the ancient discipline will be showcased in two weeks, when the best athletes from all over the world will gather in the Karate 1-Premier League in Rotterdam.

Karate fans are counting the days to witness another record breaking event of the sport. The impressive popularity and influence of the ancient discipline will be showcased in two weeks, when the best athletes from all over the world will gather in the Karate 1-Premier League in Rotterdam.

The Dutch city will host the second stop of the first-class international Karate competition, a tournament that is set to become one of the largest Karate events ever held in the country.

Following the historic participation tally in the first Karate 1-Premier League of the season in Paris, where over 1200 athletes took part in the event, the tournament to be held in Rotterdam from March 17 to 19 is on track to continue breaking all previous attendance records.

No less than 1100 competitors have confirmed their attendance at the Karate 1-Premier League Rotterdam, as ten days still remain to close the registration. Over 60 countries from four continents will be represented in the event, with karatekas coming from nations such as Australia, China, Nepal, United States or Argentina, and Italy participating with the largest delegation thus far with 115 athletes.

The expansion and outstanding growth of the sport is demonstrated once again with these numbers since the 2017 Karate 1-Premier League Rotterdam presents a remarkable increase in attendance with previous editions. The 2016 event attracted 669 competitors from 55 countries, while the 2015 tournament which was held in the city of Almere received 551 karatekas from 51 nations.

Karate enthusiasts will have even more reasons to celebrate as Karate Stars, defending World champions and Grand Winners will try to shine in Rotterdam. World champions Kiyou Shimizu and Ryutaro Araga of Japan, World ranking leaders Sandra Sanchez and Damian Quintero from Spain, Karate Stars Alexandra Recchia of France and Thomas Scott from USA, and 2016 Grand Winners Terryana D’Onofrio (Italy), Valerii Chotobar (Ukraine) or Syakilla Salni Jeffry Krishna (Malaysia) will be among the many names to follow in Rotterdam.

The Karate1-Premier League- is the most important league event in the world of Karate. It comprises of a number of the most prominent Karate competitions, with the cities of Paris (France), Rotterdam (Netherlands), Dubai (UAE), Rabat (Morocco) and Halle/Leipzig (Germany) acting as the stops of this year’s edition.

The Karate 1-Premier League will also be one of the key elements in the road to the Olympic qualification since the points to be allocated in Karate 1-Premier League tournaments will play an essential role in the configuration of the World ranking.
