Sandra Sanchez candidate to The World Games’ Athlete of the Year

Spain’s Sandra Sanchez is representing Karate in the quest to receive the Athlete of the Year award of The World Games. The prestigious recognition honours the best competitor among candidates of all 25 of the sports of The World Games. The winner will be decided by online voting.

Contenders from all the sports of The World Games will compete to be the Athlete of the Year 2018. The online voting process starts on January 1st. The first round ends on January 15th, when the top ten athletes will move to the final stage. The competitor with most votes by January 31st will be declared The World Games’ Athlete of the Year 2018.

Sandra Sanchez has been selected after making history for the sport in a record-breaking and memorable season. The Karate Star from Spain has accumulated no less than 36 consecutive medals in international competitions. The 2018 season was especially remarkable for the All-time World ranking leader. Sandra Sanchez claimed her fourth consecutive European title; then, the Spanish ace re-took the Grand Winner award after taking medals in all seven Karate 1-Premier League events of the year, including gold medals in the tournaments in Rotterdam and Dubai. Sanchez also claimed the titles of the Karate 1-Series A events in Santiago and Shanghai. 

However, it would be at home in Madrid where the Spanish fan favourite achieved the biggest success of the year. In one of the biggest highlights of the 2018 Karate World Championships, Sandra Sanchez became the new Kata queen after taking the World crown in a historic final bout. Now, Sandra Sanchez who received the biggest sports recognition in Spain in 2018 - The National Sports award - is now hoping to become the new Athlete of the Year of The World Games.
