WKF Athletes’ Commission chairman Davide Benetello represented Karate’s International governing body at the 2019 Athletes’ Forum which was held in Lausanne (Switzerland). The event was organised by the Athletes’ Commission of the International Olympic Committee aiming to unite the global community of athletes’ commissions around the world.

In addition to the members of the IOC Athletes’ Commission, the forum gathered delegates of all 206 National Olympic Committees as well as the heads of the athletes’ commissions of all the Olympic Summer and Winter International Sports Federations and major sports organisations around the world.

As the head of the WKF Athletes’ Commission, Davide Benetello took part in the three-day event to represent the sport and to further learn about the recommendations that the IOC shared with the athletes’ representatives on site. Among the proposals to be taken to the next IOC Executive Committee Meeting, it was agreed to strengthen the position of Athletes in major sports organisation, to reinforce the solidarity funding model and the direct support for NOC Athletes’ Commissions, and to toughen the protection of clean athletes and fight against doping. The improvement of the engagement and communication of the Athletes’ Commissions network and the support for career transition were also included among the recommendations.
