WKF President hails cooperation with TOCOG in meeting with President Yoshiro Mori

The fruitful collaboration of the World Karate Federation with the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee was highlighted in the meeting that WKF President Antonio Espinós maintained with TOCOG President Yoshiro Mori.

On the last day of Mr. Espinós’ visit to Japan, a delegation of the WKF was welcomed at the TOCOG headquarters in Tokyo to discuss the anticipated debut of Karate in the Olympic Games, among other issues.

President Espinós informed the President of the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee Yoshiro Mori of the many steps taken to enhance the presentation of the sport, and the efforts made in order to provide opportunities to enjoy the Olympic experience to all the Karate family while maintaining the balance between innovation and tradition. The goal of the WKF, as expressed by Mr. Espinós to Mr. Mori, is to take the opportunity of the Olympic debut to really shine at the world’s biggest sporting event, as well as to play a crucial role in the success of Tokyo 2020.

WKF President also expressed gratitude to Mr. Mori for his involvement in the inclusion of Karate in the programme of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. Mr. Espinós ensured the intention of all the Karate family of contributing as much as possible in spreading the Tokyo 2020 legacy and the values of the Olympic Games being held in three years in the capital of Japan.

“We cannot thank Mr. Mori and his team enough for all the help they have given us in making our Olympic dream come true. We are sure that Karate will bring an added value to the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 and we will do our best to cooperate with TOCOG as much as possible and to be as supportive and influential as we possibly can, in order to make the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 the most memorable ones” said Mr. Espinós.
