The big celebration of Youth Karate had plenty of moments to remember as over a hundred young Karatekas shared their passion with other Karate enthusiasts from nearly 60 countries, and experienced unique training sessions with legends of the sport.

The first days of the WKF Youth Training Camp & Karate 1 Youth Cup are devoted to training sessions in which young participants get to practice and learn from six Karate legends. Hopeful youngsters had the opportunity to interact and train with some of their idols as Karate heroes such since Rafael Aghayev, Douglas Brose, Rika Usami, Luca Valdesi, Davide Benetello and Predrag Stojadinov conducted the seminars.

“The Camp is running wonderfully. The students are very happy and the organisation is amazing,” commented former World and European champion and chairman of the WKF Athletes Commission Davide Benetello.

Secrets of Kata and Kumite

While Karate Stars Rafael Aghayev and Douglas Brose, and legends Predrag Stojadinov and Davide Benetello directed the sessions in Kumite, former World champions Rika Usami and Luca Valdesi instructed youngsters in the secrets of Kata.

“This year we clearly had an improvement from previous editions. Last year we had 700 competitors and this year the Camp and Cup are better too because we have over a thousand competitors. Probably next year we will have even more participants, and this is very good for Karate and for the WKF,” declared the former World and European champion Predrag Stojadinov.

The first days of sessions covered many key elements in the progress of Karate for the aspiring athletes, such as learning new techniques, mastering difficult movements or getting competition tips; particularly special were the inaugural days for the nearly 500 children under 14 years taking part for the first time in the event.

“Umag is the perfect setting for this Youth Camp, and we get to share a lot of knowledge with young athletes,” said World and Pan American champion Douglas Brose.

The WKF Youth Camp & Karate 1 Youth Cup continues in Umag as the event transitions to the competitive part of the event. The training sessions will finish on Thursday and the competition starts on Friday.
