Luxembourg top medal table of Small States of Europe Karate Championships

The Tal-Qroqq Sports complex in idyllic Malta hosted the 2016 Small States of Europe Karate Championships from September 17-18. Over 300 competitors from seven nations gathered to fight for gold in a disputed and high-class event.

The Tal-Qroqq Sports complex in idyllic Malta hosted the 2016 Small States of Europe Karate Championships from September 17-18. Over 300 competitors from seven nations gathered to fight for gold in a disputed and high-class event.

The Cypriot delegation presented the largest representation in Malta with over 100 athletes, but ultimately Karatekas from Luxembourg succeeded in the event with a tally of 55 medals after reaching the top of the podium 17 times. Cyprus finished in second position of the medal table with an impressive count of 70 medals and 13 golden awards.

Meanwhile, local representatives gave Maltese Karate fans reasons to celebrate with 42 medals and the third place in the final standings. Ten karatekas from the host nation took the top of the podium in the different categories at stake.

The third edition of the Small States of Europe Karate Championships gave competitors from these countries the opportunity to shine in a top-level competition, while also offering fans of the sport in Malta the unique chance to see in action enthusiastic and first-class Karatekas.  The event was attended by EKF and WKF President Mr. Antonio Espinós.
