Top Karatekas go for gold at Karate 1-Premier League in Rabat

The 2016 Karate 1-Premier League starts up again this weekend with the sixth stage of the season of the first-class international Karate event.

The 2016 Karate 1-Premier League starts up again this weekend with the sixth stage of the season of the first-class international Karate event. Rabat hosts a Karate 1-Premier League for the first time, as anticipation builds among fans ahead of the unique opportunity to witness Karate Stars in action.

Karatekas from over 30 countries are ready to demonstrate their abilities in the quest for gold to take place in Rabat this weekend. The Multi-purpose stadium Prince Moulay Abdellah in the Moroccan city is the stage where competitors will be aiming to reach the top of the podium in the two-days tournament, thus extending the successful history of the spectacular series of top international Karate event. 

The competition starts on Saturday with the Individual Male and Female Kata contests and it will continue until Sunday afternoon, when the last finals and awarding ceremonies will be held. The entrance to the arena in Rabat will be open to all Karate enthusiasts who want to experience the memorable moment of the first Karate 1-Premier League in Morocco.

Local fans hope to find reasons to celebrate this weekend as athletes of the host country represent the largest delegation in competition, with 144 competitors. World Junior, Cadet and U21 Champion Achraf Ouchen in Male Kumite +84kg, underage world championship runner-up Khawla Ouhammad in Female Kumite -50 Kg, and four-times Karate 1-Premier League medallist Abdelilah Boujedi in Male Kumite -67 Kg are among the local hopefuls of the organising nation.

Top Karatekas such as two-times European champion Vanesca Tania Nortan from Netherlands in Female Kumite +68kg, 2016 Karate 1-Premier League Salzburg gold medallist Valeria Kumizaki from Brazil, or Spain’s Kata European champions Damian Quintero and Sandra Sanchez, among others, spearhead the list of favourites competing this weekend in Rabat.

Never ceasing to thrill the enthusiastic crowd with electric kumites and virtuous katas, top Karatekas will try to continue the great level of performances that has been the hallmark of the Karate 1-Premier League competitions this season after the events in Paris (France), Sharm El-Sheikh (Egypt), Rotterdam (Netherlands), Dubai (UAE) and Salzburg (Austria).

The tournament in Rabat brings the 2016 Karate 1-Premier League to the beginning of its end as the tournament in the Moroccan city represents the first of the last five competitions of the year. After Rabat, the Karate 1-Premier League will travel to Istanbul (Turkey), Fortaleza (Brazil), Hamburg (Germany) and Okinawa (Japan).
