The Karate world is living with excitement and anticipation the hours ahead of the upcoming historic moment for the sport. The 129th Session of the International Olympic Committee will decide on Wednesday on the inclusion of Karate in the programme of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in a memorable event for the ancient discipline.

As Karate fans around the world are looking forward to the decision of the IOC Session, the delegation of the World Karate Federation in Rio de Janeiro epitomizes the hopes and dreams of millions of Karatekas worldwide.

"We are very thrilled about the decision tomorrow. The world of Karate is expecting this moment. We still have to wait, but after so many years, and after such a long process we think that we finally will be able to give the world of Karate great news," said WKF President Antonio Espinós.

"We have to keep on working and we want to send a message of optimism; let's hope that tomorrow we will give such great news for the Karate world," declared the head of the World Karate Federation after attending the second day of the IOC Session.

The feeling of anticipation is spreading around the world, and the possibility of seeing Karate in the Olympic Games is particularly taking Japan by storm. The birth nation of this ancient discipline may also become the stage where Karate's Olympic dream will come true.

"The WKF started in Budokan in Tokyo in 1970. That means that 50 years later, half a century later the world of Karate will witness Olympic Karate at the same venue where it was born. This is very, very important for Karate, as Karate was born in Japan and spread all over the world; at last it all comes to close the circle in Tokyo 2020," said WKF General Secretary Toshihisa Nagura.

The 129th IOC Session is set to make the decision on the new sports for Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games early in the afternoon on Wednesday.
