Future stars show outstanding level at Karate 1-Youth League Umag

Representatives of Japan and Bosnia and Herzegovina topped the medal table of the Karate 1-Youth League event which was held this weekend in Umag (Croatia). The second stop of the season of the first-class series of Karate events for youngsters crowned the future stars of the sport in a memorable tournament. 

A record-breaking number of 2600 competitors from 70 countries gathered this past weekend in Umag (Croatia) for the second Karate 1-Youth League event of the year. The tournament continued the success of the opening event in Limassol (Cyprus) and demonstrated the outstanding level and sporting spirit of Karate athletes aged 12 to 17. 

After three days of competition, representatives of Japan and Bosnia and Herzegovina succeeded with four gold medals each. Japanese young karatekas prevailed in Kata as all their four top awards were achieved in the category of choreographed movements. Miko Fukuoka and Rizuki Saito in cadet competition and Mirisa Ohuchi and Yuta Hibi in junior categories took Japan to the top of the podium. 

Meanwhile, Bosnian young athletes succeeded in the U14 competition. All the four gold medals of the Bosnian delegation were claimed in the category for the younger competitors. Luka Pejic, Omar Halilovic, Andela Stojic and Tarik Salkic paved the way to glory of the representatives of the Balkan country. 

Youngsters from Germany, Egypt, Montenegro and Ukraine also finished the event on a high note with three golds respectively. German representatives dominated the Cadet categories with all three gold medals there while Egyptian young athletes showed great level in junior competition with two titles. 

The Karate 1-Youth League moves to Monterrey (Mexico) where the third event of the season will be held from September 27 to 29.
