The World Karate family mourns the death WKF Executive Committee member Dieudonné Okombi. One of the most charismatic personalities of African Karate, Mr Okombi passed away on Saturday, March 23rd due to a heart attack while he was attending the UFAK Zone 2 Championships in Senegal. 

The World Karate family mourns the death WKF Executive Committee member Dieudonné Okombi. One of the most charismatic personalities of African Karate, Mr Okombi passed away on Saturday, March 23rd due to a heart attack while he was attending the UFAK Zone 2 Championships in Senegal. 

Aged 62, Mr Okombi was the UFAK Zone 4 president and UFAK Treasurer General. A 6th-dan-degree in Karate, Mr Okombi also acted as Vice-president of the Congo National Olympic Committee.  

As a driving force of the development of Karate in Africa, Mr Okombi had a constant presence in the most important events of the sport which were held on the continent. Mr Okombi had been a member of the WKF Executive Committee since 2006. 

“We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of such a dedicated person as Mr Dieudonné Okombi. He made a great contribution to our sport and in fact, he passed away while he was on duty in Senegal. He will be sadly missed; his demise is an irreparable loss to our organisation,” said WKF President Antonio Espinós. 

The World Karate family would like to extend their deepest condolences to Mr Okombi’s loved ones and friends, as well as to all members of the Congo Karate community.
