WKF Commissioner for Olympic and Paralympic Affairs and German Karate Federation President Wolfgang Weigert met International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach in Brussels (Belgium) at the presentation of the European Week of Sport.

WKF Commissioner for Olympic and Paralympic Affairs informed IOC President about the successful outcome of the World Karate Day. The World Karate Day which was held in Munich (Germany) on June 17th was a celebration of Karate?s unity as well as a commemoration of Karate?s inclusion in the sport programme of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 and the Youth Olympic Games Buenos Aires 2018. Over 2000 karatekas from all over the world gathered in the German city to showcase Karate?s impact worldwide.

Mr. Weigert took the opportunity to point out the coincidence of the values which were spread at the World Karate Day with the goals of the IOC Agenda 2020, and expressed the enthusiasm of the Karate family ahead of the upcoming Olympic debut of the sport.
